VoIP hardware is developing fast - this is where you ask all those “how do I make my SIP Telephone, Adapter or Asterisk box work with my voip provider?” questions.

Hi

I'm running a small business by myself and it's imperative to be able to take calls during office hours.

Most of the times I'm at my desk, but during the odd occasions where I have to nip out quickly to the post office or wherever I'd like to still receive the calls to my mobile.

I have 3 voipfone accounts (for 3 entirely different brands and separate businesses). So I have added each of them as a separate sip account with their own extensions.

Secondly, I am aware that mobile calls cost 10p a minute. So I don't really want to make a habit of depending on this so it's going to be for occasional use when I need to pop out to the shops.

Is it possible to add some credit to the voipfone accounts so that it's used as and when needed rather than a monthly credit pack.

Thanks

Hi @totalwise,

If you haven't already, I'd advise either setting a 'No Answer' divert on the control panel for your extension, or manually log in and apply a divert to the 'Always' field, when you're away from your desk.

(You can do this by going to Services > Virtual PBX > Call Diverts)

You can certainly top up your account on a pay as you go basis, which would be more economical for your use. Simply add a top up from the 'Package Builder', and your diverts will start working. The credit doesn't expire, and will carry over each month.

(You can find Account Credit in Package Builder > Account Top Ups)

If you'd like to discuss diverts in detail, it may be worth giving Voipfone a quick call, quoting your account number so they can take a look at your exact setup. Their number is 020 7043 5555, or 150 from one of your VoIP phones.

HI

Thanks for the speedy response I have topped up one of my SIP accounts and managed to set up divert, it wokrs brilliantly. I'm happy to do this on an ad hoc basis rather than set up a time out divert.

I have one slight issue though.

I have 3 phone lines and I need some sort of line ID feature for when calls are diverted. E.g. SIP account 1, Sip account 2 etc.

Is there any way to handle this request so then I will receive the line ID on my mobile phone so I can pickup the phone with the correct welcome greeting.

Thanks

You can use Voipfone's line presentation feature, this comes with their PBX extensions.

In your account click, Service >Virtual PBX>Inbound Numbers - then change the line presentation to name and calling number on divert, this will then display your number to you on your mobile, and if you program your number into your phone with your company name, this is what will show up when it rings.

You can choose to see one or the other, it's not possible to show both unfortunately.

Thanks I guess the phone number isn't as important because I can always check the logs in snom admin and cross reference the time to get the number.

I need a bit of help setting up the divert ID. There are 4 different virtual pbx services, which one do I purchase? Because I can't get access to the inbound number setup

You require one PBX extension to gain access to the PBX functions, it's the second of the eleven options available in the Virtual PBX section.
