If it's about VoIP, SIP or Internet Telephony but it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else, post it here.

We have 6x Snom telephones that are used for incoming and outgoing calls, we had a power outage last week that lasted for nearly 20 minutes. Whats the best way to protect against a power failure? putting a battery backup unit on every ip telephone is going to cost a fortune! :(

The best way to handle power outages is to install something called a Power over Ethernet switch. (POE switch)

It will deliver power to your phones over your CAT5 ethernet cable in the office. This removes the requirement for phones to have an AC adapter to get power from the wall outlet. Then what you do is you install a UPS to power the POE switch so that if the power goes out your phones continue to operate.

Don't forget to setup the UPS so that your router, cable/dsl modem etc all have UPS power too.

There is an update to this tool to fix a couple of bugs…

Its back again at same price about $74 plus local Taxes…

The GRANDSTREAM HANDYTONE 801 is just an analogue telep…
