Hi Robert,

Several UK VoIP providers allow third party CLI's to be used with their service, Voipfone being one. You need to supply proof that you own the telephone number, also there is usually a small administration fee payable which is usualy around the £5 - £10 mark.

None of the mainstream VoIP providers that I know of allow customers to simply spoof their CLI with whatever number they desire for obvious reasons. I know of one or two that are outside the UK but the CLI displayed is always displayed in an interantional format or not displayed at all as they tend to use poor routes!

I can only assume that someone with bad intenstions would want to spoof a CLI without first providing proof that the number is theirs.
