So payphones are almost a thing of the past, once upon a time though you would find one on almost every street corner. You still see them in pubs, clubs and a few offices so it got me thinking... Why no VoIP payphones?
So I purchased a BT Contour 100 off eBay for £109 And an OBi200 from Amazon for £39.00 which I plan to strip down and fit inside the payphone, mount an external antenna on the rear of the payphone allowing better WiFi access. (OBi devices use the RTL8188 chipset)
And...
Instead of a traditional BT cable coming from the payphone going to a BT wall socket there will be a 12v mains adapter that will connect to a mains socket providing the OBi200 PCB with power, thus allowing the payphone to operate as normal over a WiFI VoIP connection.
