If it's about VoIP, SIP or Internet Telephony but it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else, post it here.

Voipfone announced earlier this evening (via their social media accounts) that they have once again come under DDoS attack from overseas criminals.

We received the following email from Voipfone informing us about the attack:

Dear XXXXX

Unfortunately a criminal organisation is again attempting to disrupt our service with a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack.

We are taking measures to deal with this, but in the meantime, if your phones stop working for a while, please bear with us — we’re doing our best to resolve it.

We’ll try to keep you informed throughout, although as the attackers are reading these messages we have to restrict what we say. Our status page is here:

https://www.voipfonestatus.co.uk

Not all our customers will be affected, but as a precaution, you might wish to set your phones to automatically failover to the PSTN or mobile networks:

Master account diverts can be set here: https://my.voipfone.co.uk/#!/services/diverts/main
Extension diverts can be set here: https://my.voipfone.co.uk/#!/services/pbx/diverts
Police and intelligence agencies have been informed.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding; we won’t be beaten by these criminals.

Voipfone also fell victim to a DDoS attack back in September which left their customers without service for several days. You can read more about that attack here.

At this stage it's not clear if any other UK Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP) have been affected.

This attack is still ongoing for Voipfone and their customers! I have just received the following email from Colin Duffy (Voipfone CEO):
Voipfone wrote: Service Disruption - DDoS Attack Update

Dear Paul Norman

I’m sorry for any further disruption that you might have experienced, unfortunately we’re just part of an organised attack on UK telecommunication companies. Below is a message from the Chair of Comms Council UK, the trade organisation for telephony in the UK.

“Several Comms Council UK members and international IP-based communications service providers have been subjected to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks over the past four weeks which appear to be part of a coordinated extortion-focused international campaign by professional cyber criminals.

We are liaising closely with the UK Government, National Cyber Security Centre, Ofcom & international agencies to share information and details about the nature of the attacks in the expectation of halting this criminal activity as quickly as possible.

As our members supply telecoms services to critical infrastructure organisations including the Police, NHS and other public services, attacks on our members are attacks on the foundations of UK infrastructure.

We are confident that, with a joined-up Government-led initiative, this damaging criminal activity can be halted.“

We are working hard to fend off further attacks.

Thank you for your support so far, we’ll get through this. Please bear with us.
